Personality

Galen is a man who is not very personable. He has spent most of his life alone, studying magic. The only friend he ever knew was his spell book, so he will have trouble getting used to being around people.

Other than that, he lives by a strict set of rules. He will only cast offensive magic against those who wish him harm, in self-defense. He is quick to anger, though, since he feels that there are no gray areas, and that the ends never justify the means. You can never work for the greater good by doing evil, in other words. If he sees something that he feels is wrong being done, he’ll just jump right in and try his best to fight it.

However, over the years, he’s gained a lot more confidence in his abilities, and is much more outspoken, to the point of being almost egotistical.

Background

Galen was never really close to anyone during his time in the Magic City of Vane. He spent most of his time with his nose crammed in a spell book, focusing on his magic studies. The only ones he did feel a certain closeness to, was his family (Who are still alive, mind you, but they come into play in this character’s story). His parents were always supportive of his magic studies, and he had a very close bond to his siblings, a brother named Darias, and 2 sisters, Raven and Myna. Galen was only 18 years old when a Terran sorcerer named Radoria came to Vane, and kidnapped Raven in the middle of the night. Galen was up at that time and tried to stop Radoria with a high level fireball, but that spell was negated when Radoria said 2 words, "Volae Quapaj." It was a Terran ice spell. He had heard that many from the Blue Star had been practicing different magics, but this had been the first time he had seen that spell. He was hit automatically and frozen in place by the halo of frost spell. One thing he noticed about Radoria was the aura of evil in the man’s crown. Like it had the power of the undead concealed in that crown.

Darias, a swordsman with no magical ability, was about to leave that next morning when Galen stopped him. "Darias," he told his younger brother, "You wouldn’t stand a chance against that kind of magic. Only one who has knowledge of mystic forces could possibly stand against him. Let me go." Darias nodded and Galen gathered his things to leave Vane and find Radoria, and Raven. One item he took with him was a spell book, "The Power of Spiritual Shamanism."

The magic Galen found in the book, after his leaving Vane, was very different from what he had learned at the magic guild. He found an incantation that brought out his power to attack an enemy on the spiritual, or astral, plane.

At that time, he was traveling near Dalton, when he came under attack by bandits. They fought him tooth and nail, trying to kill him for coming into their territory, but his magic held strong, but he was running out of power. Almost exhausted, and angry, Galen lashed out with a blast of deep crimson fire. That blast scorched many of the bandits and they ran away in fear. Galen went to the library at Dalton and learned that that spell was one of a lost warrior called the Crimson Knight. That book told the story of the Crimson Knight.

The Crimson Knight was originally a swordsman from New Saith on the Blue Star. He came from a clan called the Dragon Clan, who studied the techniques and powers of the ancient Dragonmasters. Through the power of humanity, one man in the clan mastered the power of Crimson magic, making himself an almost invincible warrior. It wouldn’t be until the coming of Nephar that the Crimson Knight’s power would truly be put to the test. Along with his friends, the Crimson Knight known as Scott Jansen, fought and defeated Nephar. After that time, the armor and weapon of the Crimson Knight was lost, and never seen again.

However, all one needs to learn the magic of the Crimson Warrior is a strong will. Once someone with that strong of a heart arises, the crimson magic will once again surface. (Apparently, that person was Galen.)

It was a year after that time, when Galen found out that Radoria was killed by his own apprentice. He wondered who could have that kind of power. He soon found out who it was. He had traveled to Nota during his search, and right when he looked up, he found a young woman descending toward him from the skies. He soon recognized her. It was Raven.

"Why are you doing this?" Galen asked, "Don’t the lives of these people mean anything to you?"

"Why should they, Galen Lightsbane," Raven asked, "Radoria gave me such great magicks to command. It would be a shame not to use them. Jevak Quasith." With that incantation, Raven sent a huge bolt of lightning at her brother, hitting him square in the chest, and almost stopping his heart, had he not set up a magical shield prior. "By the way, brother," Raven said with a tone of sarcasm, "I no longer recognize myself as a member of the Lightsbane family. I’ve taken on the name 'Darkholme.'"

Galen collapsed as Raven continued to wreak havoc on the city of Nota. He was powerless to stop her. Since then, he has been wandering Lunar, looking for Raven, and the strength to bring her back to her senses. Raven has been rather quiet for the past couple of years, so Galen’s taken that time to study some terran magic of his own, at the Sorcerer’s guild at San Diego, CA.
