Seasons

Lyrics by dmorris (The Cobbler)

The sun shines so bright on a winter's morning in my
eager eyes in the reflection off the snow.

But the cold wind don't bother me no I don't even notice
Got my guitar and a one-way ticket and I'm finally leaving home.

I check into a hotel just a couple blocks from broadway...
I'm tired, cold, and hungry as I stumble into bed...
But before I turn the lights out, I open up my bible 'cause I
Don't want no sinnin' thoughts swimming in my head.

I have come some fifteen-hundred miles 'cause
I belong in the company of greatness...
I've seen one too many people on the streets today alone
Who have pawned away their families and everything they own...
Only I will run into the city's open arms for I have come.

I wish I could show mama the springtime in the city...
When all the people come out of hiding and the streets they come alive.
I'm still tired, cold, and hungry and I'm lonely in Manhattan
And my guitar is getting dusty while I'm bussing tables to survive.

Summertime's upon us and the streets are getting hazy
But the haze can't hide the questions that have crept inside my mind
Where's my one-way ticket? Where's my ride to heaven?
And where are all the answers I have come so far to find?

I have come some fifteen-hundred miles 'cause
I belong in the company of greatness...
I've seen one too many people on the streets today alone
Who have pawned away their families and everything they own...
Only I will run into the city's open arms for I have come.

The leaves are changing colors and the wind is getting colder
And all that I have left now is a 20-dollar bill
The morning's so familiar and somehow it reminds me
Of sitting on my front porch on a North Dakota hill.
